Ending poverty, promoting justice and restoring dignity
Caritas Egypt, which has non-governmental organization status, works with a number of international partners on social assistance programmes that focus on children, women, refugees, people with physical and learning difficulties, the addicted and those at risk from HIV/AIDS. Its activities include literacy and health projects and micro-finance initiatives to enable people to regain their autonomy. Caritas Egypt also supports social development projects such as assistance with housing.
The medical/social centres run by Caritas Egypt feature dispensaries, mother-and-child health facilities, kindergartens and vocational training for women. The organization also assists with training for pre-school teachers. Its health activities include a nutrition element for children and advice on general health issues.
